Softball Pictures

This here is my ankle. On the first play of what ended up being 3 games in one night, I rolled over my ankle while rounding first. It hurt a lot. I army-crawled back to first, and stretched it a bit, and called it good. It continued to be sore the rest of that game, and I tried to keep it loose. After the second game, we had an hour off, and i took off my shoe, to reveal a lot of disgusting swelling. I wrapped it up tight, and then we played the third game. By the end of dinner afterwards I was not doing well, and thankfully Kevin volunteered to drive me home. (Thanks!). This is what it looked like two days later.

I had hoped it was just a nasty sprain, and it would be okay to play the following Thursday.. It was not, at all. So on Friday, I went to the Urgent care facility (Where they indicated that I had been there more or less the exact same time last year, [when I hurt my back at the end of the season], and the year before [when I hurt my shoulder]... the year before I went elsewhere, when I ruined my knee. ) After some X-rays they determined that I fractured my ankle, and I got this fancy air-cast. It helped a lot.

Here's a video Steve took at softball practice. I guess I'll never be one of those batters that gets to sit and admire his hit while it's sailing through the air. I'm pretty much running to first before the pitch is halfway to home.

June 15, 2006. The final test of the knee. I wore shorts to a softball game I played back in Zeeland for my old church (They needed extra players and gave me a call). This was the first game I played where I wore shorts and no knee-sleeve thinger since the surgery, and in the 3rd inning I had to slide to break up a double play. Back in the day it was kinda the rule that it wasn't a full game unless I was bleeding, so I'm glad to keep that streak alive.
